An offer for parents of RPI hockey players

Beginning in early October of each season, I have RPI hockey preview sections from the three local newspapers (the Troy Record, the Albany Times Union and the Schenectady Daily Gazette) as well as RPI's own student newspaper, the Polytechnic, that I would be happy to send you on request.

We've been doing this for team parents for several years now and find many parents don't have any other access to these materials. While much of it ends up online eventually (at least at this website), there are many pictures, textboxes and player profiles that don't. The Record and the Poly especially have extensive coverage that's worth seeing.

If you are interested in receiving these, please email me at cmmarkham@nycap.rr.com. I'm also happy to send game programs that feature your son on the cover or inside (usually done with seniors) or any newspaper articles about your son that I come across throughout the season.

There's no charge for any of this - I consider it a small return for the privilege of watching your sons play hockey at RPI for four years, especially for those of you who have given up that pleasure yourselves so that they could be here with us.

We also occasionally have game tapes that we would be willing to copy free of charge (again, for parents only). This is a rare occurrence, but we are happy to share them when we get them. Please contact me if you are interested in any of the above services, or if there is anything else I can do for you. I have no official connection to the team or to RPI, but I live locally, attend nearly all home and away games, and am happy to help in any way I can.

May I suggest, also, that you consider subscribing to the RPI sports listserv? In addition to Kevin Beattie's RPI sports reports, you'll get emails with commentary and discussion on recent and upcoming games (always positive and supportive in nature) from a loyal group of fans. I do more-or-less weekly reports on RPI hockey alumni, and many of us post links to Internet articles we've found dealing with RPI hockey and just generally any news we find about the Engineers. The mail load is not intensive - usually 8-10 emails a week during the season - and it's a great way to keep informed.

Thanks for the quality parenting job you've done with these terrific young men!
