RPI Players Drafted on First Day

Albany Times Union, June 22, 2008

RPI defensemen Jeff Foss and Mike Bergin were drafted Friday.

Foss, a sophomore, was picked in the sixth round - 166th overall - by the Nashville Predators. Bergin, a freshman, was picked in the seventh round - 209th overall - by the Dallas Stars.

"This is a nice boost for our program," RPI coach Seth Appert said. "It shows we are bringing in higher-end recruits."

Foss played in all 38 games this year and scored a goal with three assists. Bergin had 11 goals and 18 assists for the Smith Falls Bears of the Central Junior Hockey League.

"The only surprise about Mike was he went as late as he did. We had a lot of calls from NHL teams about him," Appert said. "We thought he might go as high as the fourth round."

RPI has had 54 players selected in the NHL draft. Only 15 have been taken higher than Foss.
