Murley Assigned to AHL

Pair of Former RPI Stars Sent to Minors

Albany Times Union, September 24, 2002

Former RPI forwards Matt Murley and Andrew McPherson, both of whom played Friday night for the Pittsburgh Penguins in an NHL exhibition game at Pepsi Arena, were among 19 players assigned Monday to the club's AHL affiliate in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Pa.

Murley scored his first professional goal in the Penguins' 4-4 tie Friday with the New Jersey Devils. Neither Murley nor McPherson played Sunday in Pittsburgh's 4-3 victory over the Devils.

John Madden, Mike Hulbig and Oleg Tverdovsky scored for New Jersey on Sunday. Brian Gionta scored twice the night before in the Devils' 5-1 win over Philadelphia.

Marc Cavosie, a teammate of Murley and McPherson at RPI last season, is among 36 players still battling for a roster spot with the Minnesota Wild. Former Albany River Rats captain Sylvain Cloutier was among the players the Wild assigned to Houston, its AHL affiliate.
