Injuries at RPI

Excerpted from "Union Defense Meeting Challenge"

By Ken Schott

Schenectady Daily Gazette, January 13, 2006

Union isn't the only team with injury problems.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute leading scorer Kevin Croxton suffered a bruised ankle during last Saturday's 3-2 win over Harvard. RPI coach Dan Fridgen said Croxton, who has 11 goals and 19 assists, is day-to-day.

Fridgen is hoping that Croxton will be ready. But if not?

"We have a Plan B," Fridgen said. "It's pretty simple, somebody else plays."

When the Engineers host the Saints (6-2, 12-7-1) tonight at 7 and the Knights at 7 Saturday at Houston Field House, they will be without defenseman Alexander Valentin. He is out for the season with a torn ACL.

Fridgen broke up the CEO line of Croxton, Oren Eizenman and Jonathan Ornelas after last Friday's 4-1 loss to Dartmouth. Kevin Broad played on the left wing with center Eizenman and right wing Croxton. Ornelas was paired with center Seth Klerer and right wing Chris Hussey.

"When you looked at Oren's line, it's been a while since they scored a five-on-five goal, which is why I had them together in the first place," Fridgen said. "Sooner or later, when a unit quits producing, . . . that's when you've got to mix things up a little bit."
