Tri-Captains for RPI Hockey

Croxton, MacDonald, Farynuk to Share Duties

By Matt Graves

Albany Times Union, September 23, 2005

TROY - RPI men's hockey coach Dan Fridgen has named seniors Kevin Croxton, Brad Farynuk and Kirk MacDonald as tri-captains of the Engineers for the upcoming season.

Croxton and MacDonald, both forwards, are first-year captains. Farynuk, a defenseman, served as a co-captain last season.

"Being a captain is something all three gentlemen have earned," said Fridgen, entering his 12th season at the helm. "They each have different styles of leadership, both on the ice and off, and that diversity should be a real benefit to the entire program."

Croxton has been among the team's leading scorers in each of the past three seasons. As a junior, he was first on the team in assists with 25 and second in points with 35 while playing in all 38 games.

Farynuk played all 38 games in 2004-05, tallying five goals and 16 assists for 21 points.

MacDonald led RPI in goals (16), points (36), power-play goals (8) and game-winning goals (4) last season. He was second with 20 assists in 37 games. The team's Most Valuable Player and winner of the Coach's Award, MacDonald was diagnosed with testicular cancer after the season and his status for this season is undetermined.

RPI opens its regular season Sunday, Oct. 9, at Lowell.
