Colgate vs. RPI

By Ed Weaver

Troy Record, January 14, 2005

SCOUTING RPI

Goaltenders (W-L-T, goals against avg., saves %): Sr. Andrew Martin (4-8-1, 2.87, 89.1%), or Fr. Jordan Alford (5-4-1, 2.77, 89.3%).

Engineers not depressed: They certainly could be after last week's blowout 9-1 loss to Dartmouth and offensively-void 3-0 defeat to Vermont. Head coach Dan Fridgen, who said the team's confidence was down last week. "It was one bad weekend and we played uncharacteristically poor. We're reaching the midway point of the ECAC schedule right now and it's up to each of us, coaching staff included, to make sure we're as prepared as we can be. Then you go out and execute. It basically comes down to each player being responsible (and accountable) for his responsibilities. Success is a process. It's not something that happens overnight. It's not the end product that you go to right away. There's a process to get there ... and that means doing the little things out on the ice." The Engineers were doing those things, until lately, and often losing tight games. Therein is one reason why their frustration has developed into confidence lapses.

SCOUTING COLGATE

Goaltenders (W-L-T, goals against avg., saves %): Sr. Steve Silverthorn (14-4-0, 1.99, 91.4%), or Fr. Mark Dekanich (1-1-0, 2.03, 88.1%).

Big homestand coming: The Red Raiders come to Houston Field House tied for third place in the ECAC Hockey League with 14 points. Their 7-1-0 ECACHL record though is the league's best based on percentage and they are 15-5-0 overall and ranked 10th in the nation. After tonight's game and Saturday's clash at Union, the Raiders go home for five straight games. The Raiders are 9-2-0 at home, 3-1-0 on their current road swing and 6-3-0 away from Starr Rink, including 3-1-0 in ECACHL play.
