Third-period Goal Gives Irish Victory over RPI

Albany Times Union, January 3, 2005

Tim Wallace's goal midway through the final period snapped a 1-1 tie and gave host Notre Dame a 2-1 victory over RPI before 2,692 fans Sunday at the Joyce Center in South Bend, Ind.

The victory by the Irish avenged a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Engineers on Saturday.

The Irish are now 5-10-4. The Engineers fell to 9-10-2.

Notre Dame took a 1-0 lead early in the second period on T.J. Jindra's third goal of the season.

RPI sophomore defenseman Jake Luthi evened the score with his third goal of the season at 10:20 of the second period. Brad Farynuk and Kevin Croxton assisted on Luthi's goal, which came on the power play.

Wallace then scored his game winner at 9:09 of the third period to put the Irish in front for good. The goal was Wallace's third of the season.

Notre Dame outshot the Engineers 34-17, including 25-10 in the first two periods.

RPI made good on 1-of-5 power play opportunities. Notre Dame did not score in its four power play tries.

RPI freshman Jordan Alford finished with 32 saves in the loss, while Morgan Cey stopped 16 shots for Notre Dame.
